Paisley Long Shawl

The Paisley Long Shawl was inspired by the designs of the beautiful woven paisley shawls of the 19th century. It is an interpretation in lace of a long shawl dating from about 1820, and features original lace motifs of botehs (the small motifs filling the middle ground of the shawl) and larger paisley patterns.

This is a garter stitch shawl with every row knit. It is started from a provisional cast on at the middle and worked to one end. Then stitches are picked up from the provisional cast on and the shawl is worked to the other end, creating a symmetrical design, after which an optional fringe is added.

There is lace shaping on both right and wrong side rows, so this design is recommended for Experienced lace knitters.

The design uses five ounces (1,575 yards) of Zephyr Laceweight Wool-Silk, or three skeins. Finished size is about 29 inches wide and 77 inches long, not including fringe. NOTE: You can also reduce the number of center pattern repeats, or not use fringes in your finishing, and choose the two-skein version of the kit.
